NEDA2 conducted a consultation meeting to address the disaster risk reduction and management (DRRM) concerns and strategies of Tuguegarao City Local Government Unit on March 7, 2024 at the Pamegafanan Hall, NEDA2 Building, Tuguegarao City.

Dr. Roderick Ramirez, Executive Assistant IV and DRR focal person of Tuguegarao City LGU, emphasized that their priority is to keep the Tuguegarao residents safe from the adverse impact of flood, earthquake, and other natural disasters. He said that the City LGU would like to capacitate not only the LGU officials and employees, but also all its residents to make the whole Tuguegarao community resilient to any form of disaster.

Representatives from the regional offices of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), Office of the Civil Defense (OCD), Department of Health (DOH), and Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) each shared their available agency programs that can be tapped to support the City LGU’s initiatives. They also shared the requirements and procedures to avail of fund assistance for the construction of a training facility.

The group organized a Technical Working Group (TWG) composed of themselves, including the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) to work on the development of a DRRM module. This module will be used in community training sessions as well as in schools. Representatives from the Department of Education (DepED) and the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) said that the learning materials to be developed can be used in the DRRM lessons of students.

Dr. Ramirez thanked the group for expressing support to the City LGU’s initiatives and hoped that this partnership will be sustained. He said that the City LGU will coordinate with each agency for the follow through activities of the TWG. NEDA-DRD
