The National Economic and Development Authority Regional Office 02 strengthened its advocacies on the AmBisyon Natin 2040 and Cagayan Valley Regional Development Plan through an intensified information education campaign in both the traditional and social media platforms during the 2021 Economic and Financial Literacy (EFL) week held on November 22 to 26, 2021.
Resource speakers from NEDA 2 and the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) appeared on the weekly radio talk-show of the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) Region 02 titled ‘Tipon-Tipan sa PIA’. NEDA 2 Assistant Regional Director Ferdinand P. Tumaliuan led the discussion on AmBisyon Natin 2040 and gave emphasis on what to expect in the ‘new normal’. Ms. Gina V. Dayag, Chief of the Policy Formulation and Planning Division, shared updates on the regional economic situation and recovery plans following the impact of the pandemic.
Basic economic terms and concepts like GRDP, inflation and poverty index and how are they measured were also discussed to apprise the viewers of the show.
On financial literacy, Ms. Maria Elena A. Madriaga and Mr. Dante T. Cambri of the BSP Tuguegarao Branch shared information on how to detect and avoid fraud, scam and fake bank notes. Ms. Madriaga also demonstrated the new security features of the Enhanced New Generation Currency launched by the BSP in 2020.
The talk-show was attended by several members of the media in the region. It was broadcasted live and on the PIA and NEDA 2 Facebook pages. Online information materials on economic and financial literacy topics were also posted on social media during the week.
The EFL Week is celebrated every second week of November, pursuant to Republic Act No. 10922 or the Economic and Financial Literacy Act. This year’s theme is “A glimpse into AmBisyonNatin 2040: What to expect in the new normal.”
