The National Economic and Development Authority Region 02 conducted a two-day Validation Workshop cum Training on Land Use and Physical Framework Planning on June 10-11, 2024 at Go Hotels Plus, Tuguegarao City. This is in line with the updating of the Cagayan Valley Regional Physical Framework Plan (RPFP) 2001-2030. The RPFP serves as a guide for the physical development of the region.
The workshop validated the draft analysis of the planning environment through break-out group discussions. This was participated in by regional line agencies, provincial and city governments and the academe. This will serve as basis for the identification of development challenges, potentials, and frontiers in line with existing regional spatial conditions and global development outlook.
During the plenary session, the validated draft analysis of the planning environment along Population and Settlements, Production and Economy, Physical Resources, and Transportation and Communication was critiqued and enriched by NEDA Assistant Regional Director Ferdinand Tumaliuan and Engr. Edgardo Sabado, the Provincial Planning and Development Coordinator of Nueva Vizcaya.
On the second day, a training on land use planning enabled the participants to acquire skills and draw insights from the best practices in spatial planning using GIS applications and other tools. Regional Director Agustin Mendoza of NEDA MIMAROPA served as guest lecturer, where he shared the national spatial strategy and introduced the participants to land use and physical framework planning. He discussed the four major land use planning areas, which are Settlements Development, Production Land Use, Protection Land Use and Infrastructure Development. After this training, participants are expected to propose a regional spatial strategy, corresponding policies as well as priority programs and projects of the updated RPFP.
