The National Economic and Development Authority Region 2 (NEDA2) marked this year’s celebration of the 2022 Economic and Financial Literacy Week (EFLW) with a Forum on the newest digital trends, cryptocurrencies and blockchain.

The 2022 EFLW Forum was conducted on November 15, 2022 at the NEDA/RDC2 Pamegafanan Hall, Tuguegarao City, Cagayan. Ms. Eva Lynne M. Marcos, Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Tuguegarao Area Director, joined the Forum as the Resource Speaker.

NEDA2 Regional Director (RD) Dionisio C. Ledres, Jr., in his Opening Remarks, encouraged the NEDA2 employees to study these emerging trends on cryptocurrencies that are radically transforming the financial and economic landscapes. He also encouraged them to explore more TEDTalks videos on cryptocurrencies, bitcoin, and blockchain.

BSP Director Marcos, supplemented the discussion on digital currencies with the updates on BSP’s programs along digital banking and cyber-hygiene. She discussed Social Engineering, Phishing, and other types of scams to help everyone in securing their digital transactions. She also shared the newest Php1000 polymer note and its security features, including its proper handling.

Ferdinand P. Tumaliuan, NEDA2 Assistant RD, closed the Forum with an encouragement to all staff to research for opportunities to apply the new learnings from the Forum. He also urged the group to supplement their learnings on the topics presented.

Other activities conducted by the office to celebrate the EFLW include participation of staff in the 60th Philippine Economic Society Annual Meeting and Conference on November 09 to 11, attendance to the NEDA sponsored session entitled “Economists in the Government: A Conversation” on November 10, and posting of information materials in the office’s social media account.
